7 Pinoy human trafficking survivors sa Syria, nakauwi na

MANILA – Pitong Pilipino na biktima ng human trafficking sa Syria ang nakauwi na sa Pilipinas noong September 18, 2021 sa tulong ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). Ang Office of the Undersecretary of Migrant Worker’s Affairs (DFA-OUMWA) ang nagsagawa ng repatriation sa mga biktimang Pilipino.

Ang nasabing batch ng repatriates mula sa Syria ay inabuso ng kanilang employers. Humingi sila ng tulong sa Philippine Embassy sa Damascus para sila ay ma-rescue.

Kinausap ng DFA ang employers at recruitment agencies at government officials ng Syrian Arab Republic para sa agarang pagbibigay sa kanila ng exit visas.

“The repatriation of these seven trafficking survivors from Syria reflects the DFA’s continuing commitment towards protecting and assisting each and every one of our distressed kababayan who are in need of help and assistance,” sabi ni DFA Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola.

Ang nakauwing trafficking survivors ay tutulungang makapagsampa ng kaso laban sa mga taong nag-recruit at nagdala sa kanila sa Syria.

Maaari silang makasuhan sa paglabag ng Anti-Human Trafficking in Persons Act under Republic Act 9208 (as amended) at ng Republic Act 8042 (as amended) dahil sa illegal recruitment.

Babala ng DFA at POEA, may umiiral pa ring deployment ban sa Syria. Pinapayuhan ang mga nais magtrabaho sa abroad na dumaan sa prosesong itinakda ng POEA.

Binigyan naman ng debriefing at orientation tungkol sa COVID-19 health protocols ang repatriates mula Syria paglapag sa Maynila.
