5 minors working as ‘sacada’ rescued

BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental policemen rescued on Monday five minors from Antique working as sacada (sugar farm workers) in Murcia, provincial police director Senior Supt. Manuel Felix said.

The Negros policemen acted on the request of the Antique police on the recruitment of five minors to work in a hacienda in Murcia, by a recruiter known only as alias “Idoy” Batan of the same place.

SPO4 Judy Flores, chief of the Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, said policemen from Tobias Fornier, Antique sought the help of her office for the rescue of the minors aged 16 and 17 working as sacada at Hacienda Rojas in Barangay Blumentritt.

The rescue was made in coordination with the Murcia Police Station headed by Chief Insp. Simeon Gane upon orders from the Negros Occidental police chief. –Carla Gomez, Visayas Bureau, Inquirer.net
