ASEAN vows to combat child sex tourism

JAKARTA (Xinhua) – ASEAN countries on Thursday vowed more efforts to free the region from child sex tourism, Antara News Wire said here today.

It has been reported that over 60,000 children in the region are being exploited in commercial sexual businesses, the Jakarta Post said.

The commitment was made during the Southeast Asian Conference on Child Sex Tourism in Bali.

The efforts to stop child sex tourism would be more coordinated and measurable, a statement of the conference said.

Some 300 delegates from Asian, European, American and African countries join the meeting discussing sex tourism in Southeast Asia from a number of perspectives.

Data from the World Tourism Organization (WTO) states that more than 2 million children are involved in the child sex tourism.

The three-day conference presenting 25 speakers from several countries.
