Back pain common among Filipinos

Back pains are very common and the in the Philippines, about 80 percent of Filipino adults suffer back pain at some time of their lives, according to Dr. Ken Sison, a graduate of the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) and Cleveland College of Chiropractic, also in LA.

The standard medical approaches to back pains, he stresses, vary depending on the severity of the condition. Sison, who treats patients at the United Nations Chiropractic Center Makati branch (8993946), Yupangco building, Buendia Avenue and Nicanor Garcia St., said people suffering back pains take pain killers, undergo physical theraphy and hot packs but still suffer pain. He describes chiropractors as mechanics of the human structure. The body, he explains, is like an efficient machine but when body bones are misaligned, the function weakens. This is corrected by a chiropractic technique called spinal manipulation which realigns the bones to their proper places.

The opening of UNCC MAkati has been hailed by Makati residents, especially those from the central business district, as they don’t have to encounter heavy traffic as they travel to the main clinic on United Nations Avenue (5214962) or the Valle Verde branch (6357366) for treatment. Another branch is in Angeles City.

Chiropractic is the second largest health profession in the United States next to medicine. It is a safe, drug-less, non-surgical profession and has been in practice in the US since 1875.

It has in the Philippines for the past 18 years. –Philippine Star
