KORONADAL CITY , Philippines  – The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Central Mindanao has started its investigation into the killing of a militant leader and environmental activist here last March 9.

CHR-Central Mindanao regional director Quinciano Bueno said they are now coordinating with various law enforcement agencies to help identify the killers and establish the motives behind the slay of Eliezer Billanes, local leader of the Bayan Muna party-list group and one of the founders of the South Cotabato People’s Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy.

Billanes was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men while buying a newspaper along Osmeña street here last March 9, four days after he reportedly met with a military official. – Ramil Bajo, Philippine Star
