Child protection at village level

ParaÑaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. has ordered the reorganization of the council for the protection of children in various villages.

Appointed to the inter-agency task force were local government director Teresita Fababier and Social Welfare head Dean Calleja as chairman and co-chairman, respectively, with planning officer engineer Benigno Rivera and health officer Olga Virtusion as members.

“With this revamp, we hope to establish closer ties with the councils and improve their capability so that programs and policies on the welfare and protection of children will run well,” Bernabe said, noting the importance of an efficient monitoring system.

He underscored the need for feedback from barangay heads to enable the council to draw up policies and plans on child welfare alongside enforcement of child-related laws.

Bernabe recently inaugurated the Parañaque Aruga Drop-in Center to be managed by social welfare as a shelter for abandoned or abused children and women victims of domestic violence.–Maniala Standard Today
