MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) plans to offer a P3.235-million bounty for the arrest of 19 suspects in the killing of several militant leaders across the country, a police spokesman said on Thursday.
In an interview, Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome said they are still waiting for the approval of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the reward money.
He said that the reward money was in line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s directive to track down the killers of militant leaders and journalists.
On Wednesday, the PNP announced an P18-million reward offer for the arrest of 20 suspects involved in media killings.
A P10-million reward has been raised for the arrest of Communist Party of the Philippines chairman Jose Maria Sison and another P5 million for the arrest of rebel spokesman Gregorio Rosal.
Both were key suspects in the killing of Masbate journalist Nelson Nadura, Bartolome said.
Upon the DILG’s approval of the P3.235-million reward, the PNP is set to release wanted posters of the 19 suspects involved in the killing of militant and peasant leaders, he added. –Abigail Kwok,INQUIRER.net
