CEBU, Philippines – As labor union officer and representative of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines in Congress, partylist Rep. Raymond Mendoza is expected to pull packages in Japan that would benefit workers.

Mendoza is in Japan as one of the guests in a dinner party thrown by the All Japan Seamen’s Union.

Mendoza, who is from Cebu, attended the dinner party yesterday, which is co-sponsored by the Japanese Shipowners Association and the International Mariners Association of Japan, in the Hotel Mariners’ Court-Tokyo where President Gloria Arroyo was welcomed.

“This would hopefully be stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding to be signed by President Arroyo along with six Japan-Philippines industrial partners,” he said in a press statement.

Japan’s Diet members and ministers of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism are witnesses of the signing of the said memorandum.

Mendoza is also working on other measures to address the concerns of the sector he is representing which include the employment of those under the sector. — AJ de la Torre/MEEV (THE FREEMAN
