MANILA, Philippines – More than three-fourths of Filipinos believe that government efforts to stamp out graft and corruption are “ineffective,” the watchdog group Transparency International (TI) said.
According to the 2009 Transparency International Global Corruption Barometer report, 77 percent of Filipinos believe that the government’s anti-corruption efforts are ineffective while only 21 percent believed that the efforts are effective.
The Philippines’ score was the worst public perception of government anti-graft efforts in seven Southeast Asian countries covered by the TI survey and the fifth worst in all 69 countries covered by the report.–Philip Tubeza, Philippine Daily Inquirer
