MANILA, Philippines – Another broadcast journalist was killed yesterday in an ambush by unidentified gunmen who shot him shortly after his radio program in Surigao del Sur.

Godofredo Linao, 49, host of the program “Pamilya Walang Iwanan” over 94.5 Magic Love FM radio based in Barobo town, was gunned down by two men while he was riding his motorcycle.

Linao, whose program covered public service, died on the spot.

Reports reaching Camp Crame said the gunmen waited for Linao at the vicinity of Bogac Lodge in Barobo town at around 1 a.m. yesterday.

Police were investigating if the attack was linked to his work or to his involvement in Mindanao’s violent local politics.

“We are checking if the motive was work-related. We will conduct a thorough investigation on the case,” Superintendent Henry Libay of Task Force Usig said.

Senior Superintendent Nestor Fajura, operations chief of the CARAGA Regional Police, said responding policemen recovered a slug and four shells from a .45 pistol at the crime scene. – Cecille Suerte Felipe, Philippine Star
