Police in Cordon town, Isabela province have found the bodies of two small-scale miners who have gone missing inside a mine in the said town since Tuesday.

According to Cagayan Valley Region Police Director, Chief Supt. Roberto Damian, the bodies of Tito Anifer, 46, and one Junior May-ag were found around 5:30 p.m. Thursday inside the mine located in Barangay Camarao, in Cordon.

Damian said Anifer, a resident of Barangay Diego Silang, Diffun town, Quirino province, and May-Ag, a native of Barangay Ampakling, Diadi town, Nueva Ecija province, may have died of suffocation after inhaling noxious fumes inside a 16-meter long tunnel in the mine.

“(It) appears that both victims (were) doing small-scale mining at the height of the mountain in Camarao Village using a water pump inside the tunnel. The victims (apparently got) suffocated due to gas smoke,” the police chief said. –Ted Boehnert, Daily Tribune
