Let’s stop bashing GMA — Chiz

Published by rudy Date posted on August 2, 2009

According to a blog post citing an article in a newspaper, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero asked Filipinos to stop negative tirades against President Arroyo because she should not anymore be an issue in 2010. Posted on the blog of Ladlad founder and Ateneo Prof.

Danton Remoto, Escudero said “GMA is not running in 2010, and it would be unfair to the people if presidential candidates should still use her as an issue.” Escudero added “any candidate who runs on an anti-GMA platform is insulting the intelligence of the people. The people will vote for a presidential candidate because of what he or she intends to do if victorious, not because he or she is against GMA.”

Talks are ripe that Escudero is the opposition candidate presidential son and Rep. Mikey Arroyo was alluding to in his revelation about a young opposition presidentiable seeking the blessing of his mother. The meeting between this presidentiable and the President was corroborated by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and former CBCP president and Lingayen Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz. The supposed existence of a Trojan horse within the opposition prodded Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Congressman Arroyo to name the “Trojan horses” so that they can be punished.

For his part, ABS-CBN host and anchor sees it may come to a point wherein Escudero will have to seek the help of the administration. In his blog Ricky Carandang Reporting, Carandang said “therefore at some point soon, Escudero will be forced to make a choice: Align himself with the Arroyo regime or withdraw as a presidential candidate, or both. Having run and won by identifying himself consistently with the opposition, it would be difficult for him to turn tail and back the regime now. And without the NPC’s backing, he would not have the resources to run, unless he found himself another backer. But almost all of his major backers are already with the regime.”

According to the blog Filipino Voices, Escudero has the tendency to say one thing and say the exact opposite depending on who he is talking to. The post mention that when Sen. Escudero gave a speech at a youth IT Congress in UP, he even asked permission if he could say negative things about GMA. Escudero already denied meeting with PGMA and asking for her support in the 2010 presidential elections. –Daily Tribune
