Top govt officials’ satisfaction rating down – SWS

Public satisfaction with Vice President Noli de Castro’s performance went down, but his rating is still the highest among the top government officials, a recent survey showed. Results of the survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed that 58 percent satisfied and 26 percent dissatisfied with the performance of de Castro.

“Vice President de Castro’s latest net satisfaction rating of good plus 32 is 12 points down from the good plus 44 in June 2009, but similar to the good plus 36 in February 2009. His net satisfaction rating has been at levels plus 30 and above since June 2006,” SWS reported.

His ratings have been better compared to three other top officials, namely Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, House Speaker Prospero Nograles, and Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno.

The latest poll showed that 44 percent were satisfied and 30 percent were dissatisfied with Enrile, for a net satisfaction rating of plus 14.

It also found 21 percent satisfied and 41 percent dissatisfied with Nograles’ performance. SWS said “his net satisfaction rating has been poor since [it] began surveying it in March 2008.”

The survey also showed that 35 percent were satisfied and 33 percent were dissatisfied with Puno for a net satisfaction rating of plus 2.

Meanwhile, SWS reported that “net satisfaction ratings of top government institutions steady.”

Its survey found 54 percent satisfied and 24 percent dissatisfied with the performance of the Senate, or a good net plus 30; 41 percent satisfied and 30 percent dissatisfied with the House of Representatives, for a moderate net satisfaction rating of plus 10; and 43 percent satisfied and 29 percent dissatisfied with the performance of the Supreme Court, or a moderate plus 14.

Results of the same survey showed 33 percent satisfied and 38 percent dissatisfied with the Cabinet as a whole, or a neutral minus 5.

The latest SWS survey on public satisfaction with the performance of top government institutions and officials was conducted from September 18 to 21, using face-to-face interviews of 1,800 adults divided into random samples of 300 each in Metro Manila and Mindanao, and 600 each in Balance of Luzon and the Visayas.

Margins of error are plus or minus 2.3 percent for national percentages, plus or minus 6 percent for Metro Manila and Mindanao, and plus or minus 4 percent for Balance Luzon and the Visayas. –ROMMEL C. LONTAYAO REPORTER, Manila Times
