15 injured in QC bus accident

Fifteen passengers were injured in an accident involving two buses on the northbound lane of Edsa in Quezon City Friday evening, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The QCPD Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) said the incident happened at the northbound lane of the Edsa-Quezon Avenue flyover around 10:30 p.m.

Valentino Obligacion, driver of a Don Mariano Transit bus bound for Novaliches, told traffic investigators he was traversing Edsa when something went wrong with his engine, forcing him to shift to a lower gear.

Traffic investigators said as Obligacion slowed down, a Pana bus bound for Monumento, Caloocan City and driven by Simeon Salando bumped the Don Mariano Transit bus from behind.

As a result, the driver and conductor of the Pana bus as well as some passengers of both buses sustained injuries. They were treated at the East Avenue Medical Center in Diliman, Quezon City.

Salando told investigators the driver of the other bus suddenly stopped, making it very difficult for him to avoid the accident. PNA
