MANILA, Philippines  Unidenified assailants kidnapped 2 Filipino construction crew who were driving a truck used for a US-funded road project in Barangay Lunggang, Maimbung, Sulu last Monday.

Marine Brigadier Rustico Guerrero, head of the government anti-terror Task Force Comet, said driver Raja Haluid and his companion were driving a green mini-dumptruck in Barangay Lunggang when 6 armed men flagged down their vehicle and ordered them off the truck.

The assailants then set fire to the truck and kidnapped the two workers.

Guerrero said the two were using a truck used for the Poblacion Maimbung-Lagasan Road Project, which is being funded by the US.

“Marine Batallion Landing Team 4 elements were then securing the rest of the equipment at the worksite but the two were taken while traveling in their truck away from the road worksite. Pursuit and possible rescue operations were launched since yesterday,” Guerrero said.

He said the suspects could be extortionists or lawless groups targeting development projects in remote areas.  –abs-cbnNEWS.com
