Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna, Philippines – A 50-year-old president of a transport group in Bacoor, Cavite was shot dead near his home last Saturday morning, authorities said.

Chief Superintendent Rolando Añonuevo, Region 4-A police director, identified the victim as Benito Malinis, a resident of Barangay Molino 3, Bacoor town and president of a transport group plying the Pala-pala-Southmall route and vice-versa.

Police said Malinis was standing a few meters away from his house when a motorcycle-riding man shot him at close range at around 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

Police said Malinis died on the spot from three gunshot wounds in the chest from a caliber .45 pistol.

Police investigators said a conflict within Malinis’ transport group could have something to do with the killing. –Arnell Ozaeta (The Philippine Star)
