MANILA, Philippines – A 28-year-old welder died after he was reportedly electrocuted while doing repairs on a ship docked at the North Harbor in Manila Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Danny Ganoria, employed by Dionilyn Marine General Services, was repairing a ballast tank of the m/v Ocean Unity with co-worker Eleazar Moncada when he reportedly accidentally came in contact with the exposed part of the welding cable.

Ganoria suffered serious burns on his body. His co-workers rushed him to the Mary Johnston Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Homicide section head Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said the police will check if the ship’s workplace safety measures were adequate.

Pending the result of an autopsy, the alleged accident is still under further investigation, Margarejo said.  –Nestor Etolle, PHilippine Star
