Guard killed, 10 injured in Batangas demolition

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines – A security officer died and 10 others were injured, when a group of vendors tried to resist the demolition of the old public market in Cuenca town, Batangas, Thursday morning, police said.

Superintendent Arcadio Ronquillo, Batangas police information officer, said Bernadin De Castro, 47, and seven other guards from Ithiel Corporation, were allegedly attacked by a group of vendors, while setting up a security parameter at the old public market at around 3:30 a.m.

De Castro was stabbed in the chest and he died on the spot.

Ronquillo said the seven security officers and three vendors sustained injuries and were brought to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect in the stabbing of De Castro was identified as Jenver Tirasol, 24, a market vendor. –Marrah Erika Lesaba, Inquirer Southern Luzon
