Guard shoots colleague for being late

MANILA, Philippines – A village guard allegedly shot dead his colleague for reporting late for work in Quezon City Friday night.

Police Officer 2 Joycelyn Marcelo said Delfin Salazar, 47, died while being treated for gunshot wounds at the Bernardino Hospital in nearby Caloocan City.

Marcelo said Agustin Mejos Jr. is now being hunted by the police after witnesses identified him as the one who reportedly shot Salazar at the guardhouse of California Village’s Gate 1 in Barangay San Bartolome.

Police said Mejos apparently resented Salazar’s alleged habitual tardiness in coming to work. The victim, prior to the shooting, allegedly reported for work an hour late.

The two security guards then engaged in a heated argument over Salazar’s tardiness for work. –Jerry Botial (The Philippine Star)
