LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENTS
(IN CELEBRATION OF 34TH TUCP ANNIVERSARY)
14 DECEMBER 2009, OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH CENTER (OSHC), QUEZON CITY

REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT

TUCP PRESIDENT

THE HONORABLE LABOR SECRETARY MARIANITO ROQUE,
BROTHER NORIYUKI SUZUKI, OTHER OFFICIALS OF THE LABOR DEPARTMENT,
BRO. ERNESTO HERRERA, TUCP OFFICIALS,
FELLOW WORKERS, GUESTS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, GOOD MORNING:
AS WE CELEBRATE OUR 34TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY TODAY.
THAT THE CURRENT WAS FULL OF CHALLENGES,
SURPRISES AND YES, VICTORIES WHICH ARE ALL WORTHY OF CELEBRATION.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, OUR POLITICAL ARM,
THE TUCP PARTY-LIST HAD GAINED ONE CONGRESSIONAL SEAT
BY VIRTUE OF A SUPREME COURT DECISION.

WE ARE GLAD THAT THROUGH OUR POLITICAL PARTY,
WORKERS’ INTERESTS AND WELFARE
WILL BE BETTER HEARD AND APPRECIATED IN CONGRESS.
OUR PARTY-LIST REPRESENTATIVE RAYMOND D.C. MENDOZA HAD ALREADY AUTHORED AND FILED SEVENTEEN (17) HOUSE BILLS AND FOUR (4) HOUSE RESOLUTIONS. HE ALSO CO-AUTHORED FOUR (4) HOUSE BILLS.
WE ANTICIPATE THAT WE WILL FARE MUCH BETTER THIS 2010!

SECOND, OUR TRAINING INSTITUTE,
THE TUCP WORKERS COLLEGE HAD SUCCESSFULLY
TRAINED AND GRADUATED MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND
HIGHLY COMPETENT WORKERS
IN VARIOUS SKILLS.
MOST OF OUR GRADUATES ARE ALREADY GAINFULLY EMPLOYED
IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIES AND SERVICES.

THIRD, TUCP SECURED FUNDING
FROM DOLE , THANKS TO SECRETARY ROQUE,
FOR VARIOUS LIVELIHOOD PROJECTS OF OUR MEMBERS.
THE MOST NOTABLE IS THE ORGANIC FERTILIZER PRODUCTION PLANT
IN HINIGARAN, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL
UNDER THE ABLE MANAGEMENT OF BRO. ZOILO DELA CRUZ
AND BROTHER HERRERA.

THE SAID INCOME-GENERATING PROJECT WILL BE ABLE
TO HELP NACUSIP AND TUCP IN TERMS OF ADDITIONAL REVENUES.
IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS WE WILL BE OPENING
OUR VERY FIRST BOTIKA SA PABRIKA
IN THE BATAAN EXPORT PROCESSING ZONE, IN MARIVELES, BATAAN.
NEXT YEAR WE WILL OPEN MORE IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.
IT WILL MAKE AVAILABLE CHEAP MEDICINES TO OUR MEMBERS.
THANKS AGAIN TO SECRETARY ROQUE.

FOURTH, TUCP IMMEDIATELY RESPONDED
AND SHOWED ITS CARE TO OUR MEMBERS,
FELLOW WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES
AND COMMUNITIES WHO WERE VICITMIZED
BY TYPHOONS “ONDOY” AND “PEPENG”.

TUCP’S INTERNALLY GENERATED CONTRIBUTIONS
AND EXTERNAL ASSISTANCE FROM ITUC-AP,
RENGO, SOLIDARITY CENTER, SSS AND PAGIBIG FUND
WERE PROMPTLY UTILIZED FOR RELIEF OPERATIONS
AND MEDICAL MISSIONS WHICH BENEFITED
MORE THAN 16,000 WORKERS, SCHOOL CHILDREN, AND ELDERLY,.

IN ANOTHER FRONT THE TUCP
DID VERY WELL IN THE ILO HIGH-LEVEL MISSION
AND THE ENSUING PROGRAMS,
WITH A NUMBER OF OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR PROMOTING CORE LABOR STANDARDS
AND LABOR RIGHTS GETTING PROMINENT ATTENTION.

TUCP ALSO HOSTED THE 3RD REGIONAL GENERAL COUNCIL
OF THE ITUC-AP IN CEBU.
ALSO THE ASEAN TRADE UNION COUNCIL GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
WHICH RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT MENDOZA AS ITS GENERAL SECRETARY.

INDEED, WE HAVE SO MUCH TO CELEBRATE TODAY
AS BRO. HERRERA RIGHTLY PROCLAIMED,
THIS YEAR WAS OUR YEAR.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE EFFORTS
OF OUR TUCP OFFICIALS,  FEDERATIONS AND LOCAL OFFICERS,
THE SECRETARIAT
AND OUR SUPPORTERS IN MAKING OUR VICTORIES  POSSIBLE
IN THE CLOSING YEAR.

WE ALSO THANK OUR ITUC-AP,
LED HERE BY GENERAL SECRETARY SUZUKI,
AND OTHER FRATERNAL ORGANIZATIONS.

WE HAVE REACHED THIS FAR BECAUSE
OF OUR COLLECTIVE COMMITMENT
TO FURTHER THE INTERESTS OF WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

WE WILL NOT WAVER IN OUR DEDICATION
TO WORK FOR THE WELFARE OF THE WORKING CLASS
IN THE NEXT SUCCEEDING YEARS.

against the military junta in Myanmar
to carry out the 2021 ILO Commission of Inquiry recommendations
against serious violations of Forced Labour and Freedom of Association protocols.

 

Accept National Unity Government
(NUG) of Myanmar.
Reject Military!
