Comelec eyes listing of new voters in July

New voters will have a chance to register with the Commission on Elections from July 1 to 31.

The new voters will join the election of barangay and youth councils on Oct. 25, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said. The poll body will firm up details of the list-up when the commissioners meet en banc Tuesday, Jimenez said.

The poll body advised young Filipinos who will turn 15 years old on Oct. 25 to register to be able to participate in the youth council elections.

Those who will turn 18 on Oct. 25, are likewise asked to enlist to be able to vote for the barangay elections.

Some 293, 965 posts in barangay and youth councils will be contested in the October polls.

Voters are to choose one chairman and six barangay council members while young voters will elect their youth council chief and six council members.

Comelec earlier said it would opt for a manual mode of barangay and SK polls since there would be no need to consolidate votes on a national level, Jimenez said Joel Zurbano. –Manila Standard Today
