Vice President Noli de Castro has expressed his wish for Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay to prioritize housing and the welfare of Filipino workers overseas.

In a letter to Binay, De Castro congratulated the Makati City mayor on his election and recent proclamation as Vice President.

“As you stand by our next President in the awesome task of moving our country forward, I express the confidence that the housing and overseas workers sector will continue to have a powerful voice in the person of our next Vice President,” he said.

Binay thanked De Castro, saying he would pursue all initiatives to uplift the condition of poor Filipinos, many of whom are without decent homes and are forced to work abroad to provide for their families.

“I look forward to meeting the Vice President to discuss these concerns which should also be the priorities of the new administration,” he said.

De Castro is presently in Italy where he attended housing fairs for Filipino migrant workers and the celebration of Independence Day.

“I am humbled by the thought that I shall be succeeded in office by one who enjoys the respect of our countrymen for his vast leadership experience and dedication to the cause of local governance,” De Castro said.

“But I am also elated knowing that the ordinary Filipino will continue to have a champion and a voice in a Vice President who identifies with them and with their aspirations,” he added. PNA
