Estrada identifies major campaign contributors

THE Ejercito family, businessman Enrique Razon Jr., Estrada classmate Antonio Evangelista, a certain Jaime Dy, and gaming friend George Antonio have emerged as the biggest campaign contributors in the Joseph Estrada’s failed reelection bid.

According to the statement of contributions filed with the Commission on Elections by the deposed president, the Ejercitos gave P20 million in cash to his campaign.

Razon, former owner of the Manila Standard but better known as the chairman of the International Container Terminal Services Inc.; Antonio, Dy and Evangelista, who owns Kanlaon Construction, were listed as having contributed P15 million each.

• Jose Yap, P12 million;

• Manuel V. Pangilinan of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., P10 million;

• Jack Ng of Republic Biscuit, P10 million;

• Eric Lim, P10 million;

• Eric King, P10 million;

• William Gatchalian of Waterfront Hotels, P10 million;

• Henry Tan, P10 million;

• Eric Tagle, P10 million;

• SM Shoemart, P10 million;

• United Laboratories, P10 million;

• Eduardo Gaisano, P5 million;

• Francisco Chua, P5 million;

• Luciano Cuevas, P5 million;

• Victor Cheng, P4.5 million;

• Ortigas and Co. , P4 million;

• Victor Arellano, P4 million;

• Willy Reyes, P3 million; and

• Marcos Chua, P3 million.

Estrada reported having received P227.5 million in cash from the listed donors. –Manila Standard Today
