High schoolers to study migration, overseas jobs

Published by rudy Date posted on June 9, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – Whether or not they would like to work abroad in the future, high school students may soon find themselves studying lessons on safe migration and overseas employment.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is pushing for the inclusion of safe migration and pre-employment orientation in the secondary education curriculum.

Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said the move to include modules on safe migration in the high school curriculum is part of the DOLEs program to promote decent work and reduce youth unemployment.

The DOLEs agenda on Youth Employment and Migration (YEM) is to protect the youth from illegal recruitment if ever they would choose to work overseas, Roque explained. –Mayen Jaymalin (The Philippine Star)
