BAGUIO CITY – After the approval of the P22 daily wage increase for workers in the private sector in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Cordillera Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) here took back its earlier pronouncement that there will be a wage increase for workers in the region, saying that the desired increase will be pursued at another time.

Lawyer Ana Dione, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) in the Cordillera and RTWPB-CAR chairperson, said the tripartite body will revisit the economic indicators in the region in their upcoming meetings to ascertain what will be the most acceptable and practical wage increase to be granted to the workers in the region.

She said once the RTWBP-NCR will come out with a decision increasing the daily wage of workers in the private sector, other regions, including the Cordillera, will surely follow the granting of such increase to the workers in their respective places.

At present, the prevailing daily wage in Baguio and Benguet is P260 for the workers in the non-agriculture sector while employees in the agriculture sector receive P240 daily.

Earlier, Theodore Delson, RTWPB-CAR, revealed the tripartite body ruled out an increase for daily wage earners in the region considering that there are no pressing issues that will warrant an increase since the prices of basic commodities are reportedly stable.

Furthermore, he reasoned out the grant of wage increase will result to the backing out of more investors that are supposed to come to the region since the cost of labor will now to very high.
