Rep. Gloria Arroyo files House Resolution No. 8 calling for Cha-cha

On her first working day as Pampanga’s district representative, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo filed a house resolution calling for a constitutional convention (Con-con) to propose revisions to the 1987 Constitution.

She co-authored the bill along with her son, Camarines Sur first district Rep. Diosdado “Dato” Arroyo. House Resolution No. 8  “calling for the Constitutional Convention to propose amendments to the revision of the 1987 Constitution” was filed by a staff from Dato Arroyo’s office at the House of Representatives’ Bills and Index Division.

Early this year, Arroyo certified as urgent House Bill 6975 seeking the election of a Con-con by October. Critics then accused Arroyo of pushing for charter change through Con-Con efforts as part of a scheme to return her to power, possibly as prime minister.

Along with the measure seeking Charter Change, Arroyo also filed five house bills –

* House Bill 172 – An act establishing the framework of governance and development of Philippine education through integrating the Department of Education (DepEd) Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) into one agency called the Department of Education and Training (DET)
* House Bill 173 – An act amending RA 6374 or the Organic Acts for the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and creating the autonomous regions of Southwestern and Central Mindanao
* House Bill 174 – An act banning the catching, sale, purchase, possession, transportation and exportation of all sharks and rays in the country
* House Bill 175 – An Act establishing and maintaining lactation stations in workplaces; and
* House Bill 176 amending RA 8550 or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines.
