Auto group produces video on safe driving

SAN FERNANDO City, La Union, Philippines – The Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), with the assistance of the University of the Philippines Center for Transportation Studies, has produced a 10-minute video on safety driving tips for bus and taxi drivers in the country.

Gus Lagman, AAP president, told The STAR that the video, consisting of 12 modules of various safety measures, is a joint project of the automobile groups and the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

“This safety video has been reproduced through DVDs that are being distributed to bus and taxi operators for their drivers to watch. It’s just like they have undergone a seminar in only ten minutes,” Lagman said.

He said the tips will surely improve driving skills and the driver’s knowledge in maintenance of vehicles.

“They (operators) should require their drivers to watch this video because there are a lot of accidents involving buses. The video is open for piracy,” Lagman said.

He said they came up with the video to make it accessible to all drivers in the country.

Meanwhile, the Eso-Nice Transport Corp. (ENTC) management maintained that they are faithfully complying with the requirements for bus companies.

Edward Lacsamana said what happened last Aug. 18, where one of their associate buses fell into a ravine in Sablan, Benguet and caused the death of 42 persons and injury to six others, was an accident and the company is initiating its own investigation on the matter. –Jun Elias (The Philippine Star)
