EU tightens noose on Pinoy, foreign nurses

Filipino nurses and other workers may now have difficulty seeking employment in European countries, the Philippine Overseas Welfare Administration (POEA) said on Thursday.

POEA Administrator Jennifer Jardin-Manalili, in a statement, said that despite the announcement of job openings for health professionals in Europe, some countries belonging to the Union are currently prioritizing its own citizens for employment.

In Denmark, for instance, the country has implemented a “green card system” that only allows foreigners with special skills to work in their country.

“We have yet to receive job orders from Denmark before we can officially announce any openings for Filipino nurses,” Manalili said.

Switzerland, on the other hand, has temporarily blocked workers from non-EU countries. –CARLO SUERTE FELIPE, Manila Bulletin
