New administration inspires fresh corporate hiring, new study finds

Buoyed with renewed sense of hope and promise of a bright future with the assumption into power of the new Aquino administration, investors and companies have shown renewed confidence in the country’s economy as reflected in the significant rise of job openings for workers in online recruitment sites.

Jayjay Viray, JobsDB.com (Philippines) managing director, told reporters in recent press briefing that the peaceful transition of power has brought about a positive response from investors as evident in the pick up of the hiring trend. She said that JobsDB.com’s placement of executives and staff positions have soared 70-80 percent.

“Before the elections, the investors adopt the usual wait-and-see attitude but now we have seen that hiring trend is picking up again. In fact, we have 6,600 unique job openings posted everyday in the site as compared to the past months,” Viray said.

Based on a study they conducted, the most in-demand jobs nowadays are in the fields of IT, sales, customer service (including BPOs), engineering, accounting and finance, administration and HR and marketing.

However, Viray added that the US-led global economic slowdown has significantly impacted the preferences of both employers and candidates when it comes to the selection of their hires and job offers, respectively.

She said employers want hardworking, disciplined, multitasking employees who can make sacrifices and can commit regardless of the difficulty, while candidates want reasonably high compensation package and guarantee of stability. This has resulted in what is called in the recruitment process as a “preferential mismatch.”

Meanwhile, as part of JobsDB.com’s solution to address this gap is upgrade its recruitment Management System (RMS) in order to deliver better functionalities and user experience to jobseekers and recruiters alike.

The online recruitment network’s of 14.6 million jobseekers and 220,000 corporate clients can now take advantage on a host of advanced new features in the redesigned RMS Dashboard such as multi tasking on a single-page view, dynamic job search on map and preview modes, among others. –RED R.
