DepEd: No more weekend homework

Published by rudy Date posted on September 20, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Education (DepEd) has ordered the heads of public elementary schools to refrain from giving students homework during the weekend to give them enough time to rest and spend time with family.

In a memorandum issued on Sept. 16, Education Secretary Armin Luistro also asked teachers to limit the giving of homework to a “reasonable quantity.”

He said parents have complained that too much homework has significantly decreased their quality time with their children.

“It is advised that the teachers limit the giving of homework/assignments to a reasonable quantity to give their pupils ample time to rest and relax at home for the rest of the day,” the memorandum said. –Alexa Villano (The Philippine Star)
