German agency pushes for ‘green’ growth plan

TACLOBAN CITY — The German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) is assisting the Philippine government in developing “green” growth strategies for enterprises to deepen the business sector’s involvement in efforts against climate change.

Victoria B. Antonio, Green Growth GTZ-Private Sector Promotion Program focal person, said these green strategies will be incorporated in the new micro, small and medium enterprise development plan that will be rolled out next year.

“The new program will focus on suggested sectors such as bamboo, transportation, and food manufacturing. There are many green growth strategies that can be adopted by any enterprise such as energy efficiency, reducing water consumption, and sourcing materials locally,” Ms. Antonio said earlier this week.

She said climate change is expected to magnify the losses caused by natural calamities, which are presently estimated at less than 1% of the gross domestic product. — Sarwell Q. Meniano, Businessworld
