NCMB settles two more labor disputes

MANILA, Philippines—The National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) has settled labor disputes at Clark Development Corporation (CDC) in Clark Field, Pampanga and Best Chemical and Plastic Inc. in Barrio Maduya, Carmona, Cavite, the Department of Labor and Employment said in a news release.

Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, Reynaldo R. Ubaldo, executive director of NCMB, said that after a thorough conciliation and mediation procedure, the union and the management of CDC agreed to: speed up the process of the administrative cases against 17 union members; elevate cases directly to the grievance committee should any of the 17 cases go to the grievance machinery; hold a team-building exercise to settle other issues and bridge the gap brought about by the dispute.

Conciliator-Mediator Maria Teresita Cancio of NCMB Central Luzon facilitated the conciliation and mediation process.

In the case of Best Chemical and Plastic Inc., Ubaldo said the union and management agreed to: set the ground rules for collective bargaining negotiations (CBA); and set the negotiations on 27 October 2010 to discuss the counter-proposal of the union. The union has also agreed to withdraw the notice of strike on refusal to bargain against the company with the condition that management will not commit any act of retaliation against them.

Conciliator-Mediator George Ridad of NCMB Southern Tagalog facilitated the amicable settlement in this case.

Baldoz lauded the NCMB’s contributions to the maintenance of the industrial peace in the country, saying “with these concrete and positive steps, we have once again inched closer to our goal of achieving a harmonious and peaceful industrial front, which is one of the key ingredients of a stable and competitive economy.” –INQUIRER.net
