Filipino graduates must try the BPO jobs

Most of the nursing, engineering, and accountancy graduates in the Philippines are planning to get a job abroad. The graduates may fill up the manpower shortage in business process outsourcing (BPO), particularly in medical transcription and in call centers, ILO chief Lawrence Jeff Johnson. This will help in the expansion of the skills gap in the country; this is based in the study of the International Labor Organization (ILO).

ILO representative stated that graduates must try to fill up the available jobs. They must take the advantage of the labor market jobs. This is the project of ILO entitled “From poverty to decent work: Bridging the gap through the Millennium Development Goals and the Global Jobs Pact.”

According to them there is less risk taker in the available jobs in the labor market. Most of the graduates want to work abroad by applying their field of expertise.

Johnson said, since 2007 demands for medical transcriptionists, call center agents, software programmers, and restaurant workers have exceeded supply.

At present, Johnson said that the Philippines needs 60,012 BPO engineers, accountants, and skilled workers, 178,771 hotel and restaurant workers, and 747,947 call center agents. But the 33,886 nursing graduates compete for only 24,481 available jobs the country. On the other hand, 133,988 slots are available for medical transcriptionists but only 2,794 graduates are qualified for the job.

We need agribusiness workers with 43,393 jobs available, but only 12,612 graduates are qualified for those positions, Johnson added. [via gmanews.tv]
