Two miners in Benguet province were rescued unhurt five hours after they were trapped in a tunnel, police said Saturday.

Radio dzXL reported Gerry Acloben and John Bas-ang were not hurt when they were rescued Friday from the collapsed tunnel in Sitio Garrison Ucab village in Itogon town.

Itogon police head Chief Inspector Robert Gaspar said their initial investigation showed the tunnel collapsed while the two were still working inside.

He said the tunnel caved in due to the softening of the ground caused by heavy rains in past days.

Miners helped rescue the two, he added. — LBG, GMANews.TV
