MANILA, Philippines – A Cabinet member has 15 cars while some have millions in cash deposited in banks. These are some of the interesting details in the Statements of Assets and Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) of President Aquino’s official family.
But some officials have not yet submitted their SALN. They are Budget Secretary Florencio Abad and his daughter, Presidential Management Staff chief Julia Abad, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, Secretary of Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Ricky Carandang, Transportation Secretary Jose de Jesus, Commission on Higher Education chairperson Patricia Licuanan, National Economic and Development Authority director general Cayetano Paderanga Jr. and Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Deles.
Based on the documents, Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras owns four cars, including a BMW worth P3.7 million, and bank deposit/placements/ foreign current placements amounting to P57.825 million.
Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio de los Reyes listed owning three cars, cash and cash equivalents of P1.6 million and pieces of jewelry worth P500,000.
Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala has 15 vehicles, including a Range Rover worth P6.35 million, construction equipment, speedboat and jet ski; cash amounting to P4.37 million and P6.29 million worth of jewelry.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has one van, jewelry worth P1.5 million and cash on hand or in banks amounting to P50,000.
Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. declared a P1.37 million cash deposit in a bank, jewelry worth P1 million and one luxury car.
Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo’s cash deposits, investments and other liquid assets amount to P80.28 million based on his SALN. He also owns six cars and jewelry worth P2.53 million.
Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim’s cash and cash equivalents total P17.67 million. Lim did not specify the number of cars he owns in his SALN.
Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin’s cash in bank is P6.69 million while cash on hand declared was P1.8 million. His family’s jewelry and books amount to P420,000 and he owns three cars.
Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, the richest among Cabinet members, declared cash and cash investments amounting to P85.11 million while his family’s jewelry and art collection totaled P10.2 million.
Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman has two cars and cash amounting to P100,000 in a bank.
Science Secretary Mario Montejo declared owning P3 million worth of jewelry and a vehicle.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro, the poorest among the Cabinet members, reported a net worth of P89,393.34.
Acting Environment Secretary Ramon Paje declared P500,000 cash as of 2008 and jewelry worth P80,000.
No longer foreign staff officer
Meanwhile the family of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo clarified yesterday that eldest daughter Guadalupe no longer works in the DFA but is now connected with the Jollibee Foundation.
The secretary has declared cash on hand totaling P2.5 million. Romulo also owns two cars and jewelry worth P600,000.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz’s cash in bank is P50,000 while Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma declared cash and bank deposits/ placements of P2 million.
Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson’s cash, investments and receivables amount to P45.56 million. He owns three vehicles and a golf cart.
Health Secretary Enrique Ona’s cash and jewelry amount to P1.31 million.
