MANILA, Philippines – Workers in the Calabarzon region, comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon, are getting their much awaited salary hike, the Department of Labor and Employment said yesterday.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Calabarzon has approved a P17 increase in the daily pay of workers in the region.

The latest wage increase brought the highest basic pay in the region to P337 and the lowest to P165 a day, Baldoz said.

The region is divided into three categories: Growth Corridor Area, Emerging Growth Area, and Resource-Based Area.

Upon the effectivity of the new wage order next month, Baldoz said the minimum wage in the region’s Growth Corridor Area will increase from P207 to P337.

Those in the Emerging Growth Area will get between P176 and P281, and those in the Resource-Based Area, at least P165 to as much as P271.

The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines had sought a P75 across-the-board wage increase in the region. –Mayen Jaymalin (The Philippine Star)
