60,000 jobs up for grabs for new graduates this summer

Some 60,000 jobs will be up for grabs for this year’s graduates through the government’s Internet-based Phil-Jobnet program, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.

“There are 62,156 job vacancies posted and over 7,000 skills-for-hire of all types in the Phil-Jobnet as of February 14, and these boost the chance of jobseekers, together with graduating college students, to land employment this summer,” Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in an article posted on the DOLE website.

Baldoz said this is a sign that the country’s employers consider the economy buoyant and want to hire more workers.

She also attributed the increase to the DOLE’s aggressive labor market information drive, particularly on the efficacy of Phil-Jobnet as a mechanism matching workers with jobs.

The Phil-jobnet is accessible 24/7 worldwide on the Internet: www.phil-job.net.

Baldoz encouraged the youth, including students, out-of-school youth, and even drop-outs to avail of the opportunities offered by the system.

She also urged them to improve their skills to increase their employment prospects.

Baldoz added the DOLE remains determined to work with industries and tripartite partners to increase the quantity and quality of skills training and upgrading.

The DOLE’s Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) said local opportunities for skilled workers continue to comprise the majority of vacancies posted in the Phil-Jobnet system, BLE Director Maria Criselda Sy reported.
