DOLE-6 recovers workers’ backwages, other monetary benefits

ILOILO CITY, Feb. 2 (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 has recovered some P65,000 in backwages and other monetary benefits from complaining workers in the region through conciliation conferences.

DOLE 6 OIC Regional Director Manuel C. Roldan said the complaints were successfully settled by the department’s Single Entry Approach (SEna) that aims to provide a speedy, impartial, inexpensive and voluntary means to settle labor issues which is part of Labor secretary Rosalinda Baldoz’s commitment to President Benigno Aquino as spelled out in the 22-point labor and employment agenda.

“SEna has effectively prevented the complaints from ripening into full blown cases and helped parties arrive at amicable settlement,” said Roldan in a DOLE press report.

DOLE 6 reported that since it was launched in December, SEna has settled 15 complaints filed by workers in Region 6 at an average of 16.2 days or earlier than the prescribed 30-day period to settle the dispute through conciliation conferences.

Most of the complaints filed by workers are violation of labor standards as underpayment and non-payment of wages, non-payment of 13th month pay, overtime pay, holiday pay, separation pay and cash bond refund, and illegal dismissal.

All DOLE provincial offices in the region including its attached offices such as the National Labor Relations Commission, National Conciliation and Mediation Board, Philippines Overseas Employment Administration and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration have designated SEna desk officers to mediate any labor-related complaints.
