Returning OFWs advised to update PhilHealth membership

Published by rudy Date posted on February 17, 2011

CEBU, Philippines – Returning overseas Filipino workers are advised to update their PhilHealth premium payments to ensure continuous availment of benefits.

The validity period of an OFW member’s PhilHealth coverage is reflected on his member data record (MDR), which is a primary document when availing of benefits. OFWs are advised to check their MDRs and make sure all data therein are updated, including among others, the dependent information.

To ensure continuous contribution and uninterrupted coverage, repatriated OFWs, those awaiting renewal of their overseas employment contracts or those returning to the country for good are also advised to shift to the Individually-Paying Program (IPP) for voluntary or self-employed individuals, if their PhilHealth coverage as OFW has expired.

Premium rate as individually-paying member is at P300 per quarter or P1,200 per year for nonprofessionals, and P600 per quarter or P2,400 per year for professionals whose average monthly income is more than P25,000.

Updating of premium payment may be done in the country by a family member or a representative of the OFW. However, valid documents must be presented to establish present status as OFW, such as an employment contract or a work permit/visa.

Updating of premium may also be done in select locations abroad. For details please check the PhilHealth website at www.philhealth.gov.ph.

Family members of OFWs whose dependents are in the country are encouraged to keep a copy of the MDR in case availment of benefit becomes necessary. OFWs confined abroad may also file a claim for reimbursement at any PhilHealth office in the country within six months from the date the member is discharged from the hospital.
