Two miners were killed and five others wounded when the tunnel caved in at Compostela Valley recently, police report said.

Killed were Rey Lancian, 25, of Baculin, Baganga, Davao Oriental and Christopher Cruda, 25, of Nuevo Iloco, Mawab, Compostela Valley.

According to Senior Supt. Aaron Aquino, Compostela Valley police chief, the incident occurred last Wednesday in Barangay Golden Valley, Mabini, Compostela Valley.

Investigation showed that the victims were working inside the Arbanes mine shaft past 3 p.m. when they accidentally bore a hole in the adjoining tunnel which was filled with water.

The sudden rampaging of water caused boulders and rocks to be swept and buried the two victims, the report said.

The five others were wounded and taken to the hospital for treatment. Gina Peralta-Elorde, Daily Tribune
