POLICE investigators have linked a leftist underground movement to the murder of radio broadcaster Marlina Sumera who was gunned down in Malabon City on March 24 by four unidentified suspects.
The Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Sumera identified the group as the Partisano Gitnang Luzon (PGL), whose alleged leader Carlos Alejandro was already charged with a murder case along with four others..
Investigators said the killers of Sumera employed the same “modus operandi” in the killing of Edwin Abella, barangay captain of Brgy. North Bay Boulevard South, Navotas who was killed on March 15.
It was learned that the gruesome killing of Abella and Sumera was perpetrated by four suspects, three males and a female. In both incidents, the gunman also picked-up the empty shells before fleeing the crime scene.
“ The four suspects were identified as members of the Partisano Gitnang Luzon whose alleged leader Carlos Alejandro was already charged with a murder case by SITG-SUMERA together
with aliases Al Pilay, Rosa, Rene and Pangit,” probers said.
Police probers eyed “land conflict” as possible motive behind the killing of Sumera, who is also president of a homeowners association in her community in Maysilo, Malabon City.
The involvement of PGL, probers added, was established after they recovered a leaflet which was left by the group after killing Abella.
“ Intelligence operatives later verified and validated said claim by the PGL on the murder of the barangay captain. Both the case of Abella and Sumera have common suspect during the actual commission of the crime identified only as Ka Rosa. Ka Rosa was the lone female suspect on both killings,” police said.
On April 4, 2011 a murder case was charged against the same suspects at Navotas City Prosecutor’s Office for the killing of Brgy. Captain Abella.
Police Director Arturo Cacdac, also the Task Force USIG Commander, said that the breakthrough will serve as the lead in the conduct of follow-up investigations by police agents.
Cacdac also revealed that the PNP had already raised the reward offered for any information that would lead to the killers of Sumera to P450,000 and formed seven tracker teams from the
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Cacdac said, “the reward could go up to P500,000 as long as we can get the information that will led us to the masterminds and killers of Sumera, as well as Abella.” –WILLIAM B. DEPASUPIL REPORTER, Manila Times
