MANILA, Philippines –  Five communist rebels were killed last Monday by their comrades in Negros Occidental as the New People’s Army (NPA) steps up its campaign dubbed “Kampanyang Paghilamon” against suspected military spies within its ranks, the Army said yesterday.

Col. Jonas Sumagaysay, assistant division commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, said two rebels known by their aliases “Rustom” and “Kennedy” were executed by their comrades in Sipalay town last June 6.

On the same day, three insurgents were slain by their comrades in Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante town. –Alexis Romero The Philippine Star
