DSWD-8, partners ink MOA in the implementation of KALAHI-CIDSS

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, June 23(PIA) – The regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with three private partners in Eastern Visayas in the implementation of the different poverty-alleviation programs, projects and activities of the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS).
The signing of MOA between DSWD-8, P Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corporation (PASAR) Foundation Incorporated, Municipal Philippine Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), Basey Chapter and the News and Public Affairs Program of DYAJ POWER FM of the World Broadcasting Corporation was held on June 22 at the Seahouse Vista in Barangay San Jose here.
The MOA stipulated each party involvement in the implementation of KALAHI-CIDSS, one of the government’s major poverty-alleviation programs that aimed at reducing poverty by providing matching grants to poor communities to identify, design and manage community sub-projects that improve their access to basic social services, in the identified local government units in Eastern Visayas.
PASAR Foundation, Inc. partnered DSWD-8 to implement KALAHI-CIDSS-Makamasang Tugon in the second semester of 2011 in the municipalities of Bato, Javier, Julita, Kananga, La Paz, Leyte, Mahaplag, Mayorga, San Isidro, Tabango, and Tabontabon in Leyte province.
PASAR Foundation, Inc. focused in providing access to youth of identified Leyte KALAHI-CIDSS municipalities through educational tours and involve barangay officials in studying how KALAHI-CIDSS worked in these areas.
The Municipal Philippine Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), Basey Chapter also partnered DSWD-8 to implement KALAHI-CIDSS-in new municipalities in Samar and the Makamasang Tugon modality in Leyte, Samar, Eastern Samar, and Northern Samar.
PYAP-Basey chapter saw the opportunity to harness the creativity of the youth in the theater arts to be used as an advocacy tool for Kalahi-CIDSS and the two other social protection programs of the DSWD through Self-Employment Assistance Kaunlaran and Pantawid Pampamilyang Pilipino Program.
The News and Public Affairs Program of DYAJ Power FM of the World Broadcasting Corporation decided to work as partner with DSWD-8 to strengthen KALAHI-CIDSS advocacy efforts particularly in Northern Leyte areas which covered the municipalities of Bato, Javier, Julita, Kananga, La Paz, Leyte, Mahaplag, San Isidro, Tabango and Tabontabon.
The signatories to the MOA were regional director Letecia T. Corillo of DSWD-8, Atty. Manuel R. del Rosario in his capacity as PASAR Foundation President represented by Ruben Cajiges, executive director of PASAR Foundation, Inc.,Val M. Ducducan, PYAP regional federation president represented by Raymund C. Ramirez, vice-president, PYAP-Basey chapter and Bro. Huge Hugo, business manager, Power FM Radio represented by Eden N. Urbano, administrative officer, Power FM Radio. (PIA 8)
