The National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice and Peace of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP-NASSA) on Tuesday appealed to President Benigno Aquino 3rd to resolve the work safety issues brought to its attention by workers of a Korean ship-building company based in Subic. Fr. Edu Gariguez, CBCP-NASSA executive secretary, said the government must do something about the workers’ demand for work safety at the Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Philippines, Inc. (HHICPI). “The Korean company has not heeded the demand of its 20,000 workers for occupational safety. We are now calling on the government to act on this matter,” Gariguez said. –ROMMEL C.
