Three construction workers died while two others were hospitalized after they were suffocated inside a septic tank before noon Wednesday in Batangas province.

Malvar town police chief Senior Inspector Gaudencio Aguilera said the incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. inside the compound of a technology center in Santiago village in Malvar town.

“Sila ay lumusong doon sa septic tank may tatlong meters ang lalim. While they were already inside the septic tank na-suffocate sila,” he said in an interview on dzBB radio.

He did not immediately identify the three fatalities, but added the two others were in stable condition as of noon.

Aguilera said their initial investigation showed the three may have died due to lack of oxygen in the septic tank.

Meanwhile, a separate report quoted Aguilera as identifying the fatalities as Romulo Fernandez, Nardito Igloso and Ronald Alimbo.

The two who are still in the hospital but in stable condition are Tarcisio Ondoy and Glenard Igloso. — LBG, GMA News
