Government pushes reproductive health agenda

GOVERNMENT continued its thrust for its reproductive health agenda by reiterating previous family planning memorandum.
The Department of Health (DOH) released Administrative Order 2011-0005 yesterday that consists of guidelines on ensuring quality standards in the delivery of family planning program and services.

The Administrative Order was released to reiterate a memorandum issued by DOH in June 2006. The order involves all DOH units including the Commission on Population and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.

The guidelines emphasize informed choice and voluntarism through information dissemination on family planning.

The order defines informed choice as effective access by individuals of information regarding family planning options, supplies, counseling and related services that may be declined or accepted at will by the individual.

Voluntarism is defined by the order as the exercise of choice of family planning without any form of coercion and misrepresentation.

Francis B. Lucas, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) declined to comment as he he had yet to read the administrative order. The DOH was unavailable for comment.–Businessworld
