THE Climate Change Commission revealed its program in support of the government’s campaign to create green jobs in the country.

Commission Vice Chair Mary Ann Lucille L. Sering said that under the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP), the commission has drawn up thematic programs or activities to be undertaken towards the establishment of climate-resilient, eco-efficient and environment-friendly industries and services, which in turn, will help create green jobs in the country.

“Priorities will focus on promoting climate-smart industries in partnership with the private sector, creating green jobs and sustainable livelihoods especially in the rural areas and the most vulnerable men and women in these communities, and promoting climate-resilient and sustainable cities and municipalities,” Sering explained.

Sering cited the electric tricycles which is plying select areas in the country such as The Fort in Taguig and Puerto Princesa in Palawan. “While the main components of these three-wheeled vehicles are imported, they are locally assembled and, thus, have already created several green jobs in the country,” she said.

She also cited Victory Liner, one of the biggest transportation companies in the country that is going to use electric buses in its fleet of buses to service select routes under a program dubbed “Victory Against Climate Change.”

“But first, we have to establish a stable enabling policy that supports these industries. We will go into that in the near future as we are now waiting the formal approval of the program (NCCAP) by President Aquino,” Sering said.

Sering also commended Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz for the role of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) in crafting the NCCAP. –People’s Tonight
