MANILA, Philippines – A forklift operator died when three logs fell on him at the pier zone in Tondo, Manila early morning yesterday.

Numeriano Palanas Jr., 49, an employee of Integrated Dynamic Services, Inc., expired at the Tondo Medical Center due to massive body and head injuries.

Police Officer 3 Giovanni Valera said the victim was one of several forklift operators unloading a cargo of logs from M/V Al Rui Xin docked at the North Harbor. Mark Anthony Artillero allegedly lost control of the forklift he was operating and its cargo of three logs fell on Palanas, who was crushed in the driver’s seat. Valera said Artillero failed to come to the Manila Police District to shed light on the incident. –Nestor Etolle The Philippine Star
