Three miners die, four others injured in Compostela landslide

Three miners died and four others were injured in a landslide in Compostela Valley province. Municipal and provincial disaster relief response teams were dispatched to the Sitio Tagutong, Barangay Manurigao, New Bataan.

The Philippine National Police provincial regional office on Friday said heavy rains over the disaster site may have loosened the soil and caused the landslide.

Last April, a landslide in Pantukan, Compostela Valley claimed the lives of at least 13 persons.

In the aftermath of that disaster, local officials and national officials promised to clamp down on small-scale mining operations in the province. http://www.gmanews.tv/story/218881/nation/ochoa-heed-laws-to-avoid-comval-type-landslides
