Worker killed, another hurt as house collapses

MANILA, Philippines – A worker was killed while another was injured when the house they were helping to demolish in Makati City collapsed Tuesday night.

Makati City Police officer-in-charge Superintendent Jaime Santos identified the fatality as Julius Cesar Tumbocon, 29, of Sasmuan, Pampanga. The injured worker was identified as Pepito Regala.

Santos said the two workers were demolishing the second floor of a house located at 105 Kalayaan Avenue corner Chino Roces street in Barangay Sta. Cruz when the flooring crushed and the concrete wall fell on Tumbocon.

Members of the Makati City Rescue led by Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay rushed Tumbocon and Regala to the hospital.

Meanwhile, police said they would be assisting the Office of the City Engineer in the investigation of the incident. –Mike Frialde The Philippine Star
